Group Launches Web Site Offering Support, Advice to Children Affected by HIV/AIDS in Vietnam

April 9, 2008

A group of HIV/AIDS advocates recently launched a Web site that offers support and advice to children living with or affected by HIV/AIDS in Vietnam, the VNS/Vietnam News reports. According to Chu Quoc An, deputy director of Vietnam's Administration of HIV/AIDS Control, 0.9% of people living with the disease in the country are children under age 13.

According to the VNS/News, the Web site provides detailed information about HIV/AIDS and aims to bring donors and HIV-positive children together. The Web site was launched by members of the Hanoi, Vietnam-based For a Bright Future Group, as well as the World Health Organization and Vietnam's Party Central Commission for Popularization and Education.

Do Dang Dong, a member of For a Bright Future Group, said information on the Web site about the children living with or affected by the disease will be regularly updated. Dong said the group visited several cities and provinces -- including Hai Phong, Ninh Binh, Thai Nguyen and Thai Binh -- to gather information about HIV-positive children in the country. The group collected details about 500 children and posted information about 200 children on the Web site. According to the VNS/ News, the identities of the children will be protected. Dong said there are many ways the public can support children affected by the disease, such as donating money or clothes or providing useful information and photos for the Web site (VNS/Vietnam News, 4/8).
