Utah: Restriction Added to Bill Funding STD Education
February 11, 2008
A bill to provide $350,000 annually to teach teens about STDs was by a split voice vote amended Thursday in the Senate to exclude delivering STD information at public schools and by private groups. The bill's senate sponsor, Sen. Allen Christensen (R-North Ogden), said there would be further time to consider the bill when it comes to the full Senate for a vote. Rep. Phil Riesen (D-Holladay) is the sponsor of HB 15, which is intended to target the rising incidence chlamydia and gonorrhea in Utah.
