Television Programs Mark World AIDS Day

November 28, 2007

Several broadcast and cable channels are presenting special movies and programs to commemorate World AIDS Day. These viewing opportunities include:

  • "Positive Voices: Women and HIV." Gloria Reuben hosts this look at the lives of six women affected by HIV. Friday, 9 p.m., Showtime.
  • "India's Hidden Plague." Ashley Judd, YouthAIDS global ambassador, explores the epidemic's effect on India. Friday, 10 p.m., National Geographic Channel.
  • "The Ride: Seven Days to End AIDS." This documentary details a 585-mile bike ride to raise money to fight AIDS. Saturday, 8 a.m., Logo.
  • "Longtime Companion." Eight people confront AIDS in the early days of the epidemic. Saturday, 11 a.m., Logo.
  • "It's My Party." Eric Roberts plays a man with AIDS who plans a final celebration. Saturday, 1 p.m., Logo.
  • "Stephen Fry: HIV & Me." The noted actor examines AIDS in Britain today. Saturday, 2 p.m., Sundance.
  • "Beat the Drum." On a quest across country, a Zulu boy learns about the "mysterious illness" ravaging South Africa. Saturday, 3 p.m., Showtime.
  • "Behind the Red Door." Kiefer Sutherland plays a gay man dying of AIDS who reunites with his sister (Kyra Sedgwick) to confront their troubled past. Saturday, 4 p.m., Logo.
  • "The Origins of AIDS." An exploration of the theory , detailed in Edward Hooper's controversial book "The River," that HIV/AIDS resulted from an experimental polio vaccination campaign in the 1950s. Saturday, 4 p.m., Sundance.
  • "I Want to Be a Pilot." U.S. TV premiere of a short film based on the stories of 50 Kenyan AIDS orphans. Saturday, 5:30 p.m., Sundance.
  • "Positive Voices: Matthew Cusick." A short film about an HIV-positive Cirque de Soleil performer. Saturday, 5:35 p.m., Sundance.
  • "In the Gloaming." A gay man dying of AIDS (Robert Sean Leonard) comes home to be nursed by his mother (Glenn Close). Saturday, 6 p.m., Logo.
  • "Jeffrey." A gay man (Steven Weber) finds love with an HIV-positive partner (Michael T. Weiss). Saturday, 7:30 p.m., Logo.
