International News South Africa: Top Artists to Rock Johannesburg on World AIDS Day, Says MandelaOctober 2, 2007 Some 50,000 people are expected to attend a World AIDS Day concert on Dec. 1 at Ellis Park stadium in central Johannesburg. Former President Nelson Mandela announced the show Monday; it will benefit the Nelson Mandela Foundation's 46664 AIDS charity, which bears the number he wore during 27 years as a political prisoner under South Africa's apartheid regime. The line-up for the show has not been revealed. Mandela also recently announced a benefit concert in London on June 27, 2008, coinciding with his 90th birthday. "I am very delighted that we are engaging youth in schools, communities and the media in breaking the silence and stigma around HIV and AIDS and making them realize that the power to beat the epidemic lies in their own hands," Mandela said.
