International News Romania to Continue to Sponsor HIV/AIDS Prevention ProgramsAugust 8, 2007 Today in Bucharest, Public Health Minister Eugen Nicolaescu presided at the opening ceremony of Romania's HIV/AIDS Center, calling it a "forward step" in the fight against the epidemic. "There are over 10,000 AIDS sufferers and some 6,000 HIV-virus bearers currently recorded in Romania. Romania is a country where the disease is at one of its lowest levels, with the number of new registered cases having fallen in 2006 from 2002, and there are indications the descending trend will continue in 2007," Nicolaescu said.
