International News UN Appeals for $15.6 Million in Aid for Drought-Hit SwazilandAugust 2, 2007 In the wake of the worst corn harvest on record, some 400,000 people in Swaziland, one-third of the population, are now at risk of starvation. In response, the UN has launched an appeal to raise $15.6 million to bring in an additional 40,000 tons of food needed between now and April. Swaziland's government has pledged $23.6 million for food and water. The tiny kingdom has the world's highest adult HIV prevalence rate -- 42.6 percent.
