U.S. News North Carolina: HIV Tests Available at More LocationsJuly 6, 2007 The state Division of Public Health's HIV/STD Prevention and Care Branch has given the Gaston Health Department a three-year, $300,000 grant to expand HIV and STD outreach. The money will be used to increase "non-traditional, on-site" HIV and syphilis testing at community centers and other locations; the testing is free and confidential. Appointments are not required and results will be available at the Health Department within a few days of testing. Counselors will be on-hand to discuss ways to lower the risk of contracting the diseases and treatment options. Free and confidential HIV testing is also available weekdays at the Health Department, 991 W. Hudson Blvd. For more information, telephone 704-853-5000 or 704-853-5238.
