Arizona: Center Offering Women Free HIV Tests

July 3, 2007

On the first Saturday of the month, Fresh Start Women's Resource Center and Ebony House Inc. will offer free, confidential rapid oral HIV testing, HIV/AIDS information and counseling to clients. "You know your status and -- with applied knowledge -- you can live longer," said Sharon Donald, HIV coordinator of Ebony House Inc. "We offer health education and risk reduction." The Resource Center, located at 1140 E. McDowell Rd., is a safe place for women to get an HIV test, said R.J. Shannon, minority AIDS coordinator with the Arizona Department of Health Services. "These organizations respect women and are interested in keeping them healthy," she said. Treatment is available for those needing it, Shannon said.
