St. John's Wort Warning

From Reuters; originally published March 1, 2000

Spring 2000

The government has warned against using St. John's Wort, an herbal remedy for depression, because it can prevent some prescriptions from working properly.
If you are taking St. John's Wort and antiretrovirals for the treatment of HIV disease, please ask your doctor about drug/herb interactions.

The British Ministry of Health warned that some drugs for the treatment of HIV, heart conditions, and asthma, and the oral contraceptive pill could be affected by the herb. Over 2 million people use St. John's Wort. If you are taking St. John's Wort and antiretrovirals for the treatment of HIV disease, please ask your doctor about drug/herb interactions.
