New York: At $6.85 Million, an AIDS Walk Record

May 29, 2007

More than 45,000 people participated in the 22nd AIDS Walk New York on Sunday, May 20. Fewer people attended this year's walk, but they raised $6.8 million for over 50 local HIV/AIDS service organizations, the largest sum ever for the event. "The AIDS Walk is the largest HIV awareness and education and fundraising event in the world," said Dr. Marjorie Hill, CEO of the Gay Men's Health Crisis. "And while funds are critically important, the individual, community, and national attention of HIV education are also important."
