Michigan: Candlelight Vigil Puts Focus on AIDS

May 23, 2007

More than 60 people turned out Sunday night in Veterans Memorial Park in Grand Rapids to commemorate the 24th annual International AIDS Candlelight Memorial. Local organizers said AIDS-related conditions have killed some 400 people in Kent County, and about 960 residents are known to be HIV-positive. Of these, 61 percent are ages 20-37. This was the third year Grand Rapids activists organized a local gathering to mark the international event.
