Public Radio Show Features Interview With Black HIV/AIDS Advocates

NPR's "News & Notes" on Wednesday included a discussion with Tadhi Coulter and Timothy Daniels, co-founders of Standing-N-Truth, a group that promotes HIV/AIDS education in the black community. In the interview, Coulter and Daniels discuss attitudes among blacks about HIV/AIDS and homosexuality. Coulter, who is HIV-negative, and Daniels, who is HIV-positive, also discuss how their HIV status affects their relationship as a couple. Coulter said, "The way I see it is that we're all positive." He added, "I also understand that until we find a cure for HIV and AIDS that we're all at risk. So I'm not going to base my life on picking and choosing someone who may or may not be HIV-positive." Daniels, who contracted HIV more than 20 years ago, said, "I think that part of my experience has just been to share ... we need to be open enough to share our experiences with others" (Chideya, "News & Notes," NPR, 5/2).
