Medical News The Health and Health Behaviors of Young Men Who Have Sex With MenApril 25, 2007 The purpose of the current study was to examine health and mental health problems for which young men who have sex with men (YMSM) may be at risk. The researchers administered an audio-computer-assisted survey to an ethnically diverse sample of 526 YMSM ages 18-24. Venue-based probability sampling was used to recruit the men from bars, clubs, and other social venues. The researchers noted a range of health and mental health problems and health-compromising behaviors, including overweight/obesity, depression, and suicidal thoughts/attempts. Many of the YMSM were found to have high rates of STDs. Many also reported being uninsured or having limited access to health care.
