Prevention/Epidemiology Canada: Ottawan's Talking Condoms Win PeabodyApril 19, 2007 The Three Amigos campaign, which uses talking cartoon condoms to promote safe sex and has been translated into more than 40 languages, is being honored with a Peabody Award. "The Peabody has been won by, literally, the world's giants in television, so it's a great achievement for a guy [working] out of his house in Ottawa," said director and co-producer Firdaus Kharas. The cartoon condoms "are so famous in South Africa that when I walked into a high school in the middle of nowhere, I was treated like a rock star." Still, Kharas reminded, "The Three Amigos isn't about winning awards. The Three Amigos is about saving lives." The Peabody Awards will be handed out June 4 in New York City.
