International News Poland to Ban Schools From Discussing HomosexualityMarch 20, 2007 Discussions of homosexuality would be banned from schools and educational institutions under a law proposed in Poland. Roman Giertych, the country's education minister, said he hopes to introduce similar measures across the European Union. "If that kind of approach to sexual life were to be promoted on a grand scale, the human race would disappear," President Lech Kaczynski said last month. Having been fast-tracked, the measure could become law by the end of the month. Scott Long of New York-based Human Rights Watch said, "Polish authorities claim to be protecting families, but in fact they are trying to deny children free speech and lifesaving information on HIV/AIDS. Schools should be training grounds for tolerance, not bastions of repression and discrimination." The European Commission has joined in condemning the proposed law.
