Florida: Manatee Youth Sex Survey Eye-Opening

March 2, 2007

According to preliminary results of the 2006 Youth Risk Behavior Survey, more than one-third of the 2,196 Manatee County ninth-graders surveyed said they have had sexual intercourse. One in 10 admitted to having had four or more sex partners. The data were presented at a local meeting of the CEO Roundtable, a community group that works with at-risk youth. In addition, 19 percent reported taking five or more alcoholic drinks in a row in the past 30 days. The survey's results and their implications for area youth will be the topic of a community breakfast at 8 a.m. on Wednesday, March 21, at the Manatee Civic and Convention Center. For information, e-mail Karen Stewart at kstewart@rc4k.org.
