Housing Works Surveys AIDS Groups on Impact of September 11 Attacks and Bare-Bone State Budget

November 5, 2001

Housing Works is carrying out a quick survey of NYC metro AIDS groups this week to gauge the impact of problems related to the September 11 attacks and the bare-bones state budget. We'll use the results of the survey to advocate with federal, state and local officials for funding to keep the HIV/AIDS system of care strong, for restoration of state AIDS budget cuts, to prevent new cuts in the future, and to push for new funding wherever possible.

The survey is available on our website at http://www.housingworks.org/pdf/hw.sept11.survey.memo.forma.pdf -- you can download an easily printable PDF form to fax back to us.

We'll also be calling and emailing groups to get a quick read on how folks are doing and on what help is needed.

There are a couple of similar surveys going around -- we reported on the AIDS Institute's study, and we'll pool our information with that collected by the New York City AIDS Housing Network and the New York AIDS Coalition. Our hope is that all AIDS advocacy groups in New York will be able to carry out advocacy equipped with a complete and accurate account of how our community has been hurt by the September 11 attacks. Our survey is short and fast, and hopefully folks will find it worthwhile and relatively painless.
