Renslow Sherer, M.D.

Renslow Sherer, M.D., is a Clinical Associate and the Program Chair of the Section of Infectious Disease at the University of Chicago Hospitals. He is one of the founders of the AIDS Foundation of Chicago (1985), as well as the Sable/Sherer Human Retroviral Disease Clinic at Cook County Hospital, where he has been a primary caregiver for persons with HIV disease since 1982. He led the clinical team that designed the CORE Center, a model ambulatory facility for HIV and related infectious diseases that opened in Chicago in October of 1998.

Dr. Sherer is the author of numerous national and international publications and presentations addressing the AIDS pandemic. He attended Princeton University and King's College, London, before receiving his medical degree from Rush University, where he served as Associate Professor of medicine from 1998-2003. At Cook County Hospital, he has directed both the Coordinated HIV Services and HIV Primary Care Center.

Dr. Sherer has been active in HIV research and the design and implementation of clinical trials. In 1999, he became the Principal Investigator of the AIDS Education Training Center's National Resource Center and the Chairman of the Institute for Healthcare Improvement Breaththrough Initiative on HIV/AIDS. He has been a member of the Health and Human Services Guideline Panel on the Use of Antiretroviral Agents since its inception in 1996.

When not practicing medicine or analyzing clinical data, Dr. Sherer, a native Chicagoan and father of four, enjoys ice hockey, playing his guitar and spending quality time with his two grandsons.
