Robert H. Remien, Ph.D., is a research scientist at the HIV Center for Clinical and Behavioral Studies, and is an assistant professor of clinical psychology (in Psychiatry) at Columbia University. He received his master's degree in psychology and a Ph.D. in clinical psychology from The New School for Social Research in New York City.
He has been an investigator in the HIV Center from the beginning, collaborating on studies of psychopathology, psychoimmunology, coping and adaptation, sexual risk behavior, and long-term survival with HIV among gay men and male and female injected drug users. Currently his research is focused on mental health interventions for HIV serodiscordant couples; behavioral and mental health interventions for HIV-infected gay men; changes in attitudes, beliefs and behaviors associated with HIV medical treatment advances in both infected and uninfected individuals; and interventions to improve adherence to combination medical regimens for people living with HIV.
