Dr. Jackson received his medical degree from Dartmouth Medical School, and completed a residency in the Department of Laboratory Medicine at the University of Minnesota Hospitals. He rounded out his post-doctoral training as a Blood Bank Fellow in the Department of Medicine and Pathology at the University of Minnesota Hospitals. He is board certified in clinical pathology and blood banking.
Over the course of his career, Dr. Jackson has served on numerous committees for the NIAID AIDS Clinical Trials Group, and is currently a member of both the Pediatric Virology Scientific Committee and the Adult Virology Advanced Technology Committee. The College of American Pathology and the American Association of Blood Banks are among the many organizations with which he is affiliated.
In addition, Dr. Jackson is a respected reviewer for many scientific journals, including the American Journal of Clinical Pathology and the Journal of Infectious Diseases and serves on the editorial board of the Hopkins HIV Report. He has also authored and co-authored upwards of eighty peer-reviewed articles.
