Thailand Allows Generic Versions of AIDS, Heart Drugs

Today in Bangkok, the health ministry announced it had approved generic versions of the AIDS drug Kaletra and the blood-thinning treatment Plavix. Doctors Without Borders praised the decision: DWB said it now expects the cost of Kaletra to drop from 11,580 baht ($338 US) per month to 4,000 baht ($117 US) in Thailand, and the per-pill cost of Plavix should drop from 120 baht ($3.50 US) to six to 12 baht (17-35 cents US).
