India: Actor Gere Praises Indian Politician's Stand on AIDSJanuary 16, 2007 On Sunday in New Delhi, U.S. film star Richard Gere praised Karnataka state Chief Minister H.K. Kumaraswamy for his plans to spend a night in the home of an HIV-affected family. "That someone undertakes that responsibility and this symbolism -- it will do so much to lower the stigma," said Gere, who is touring India to promote AIDS awareness. "We have Prime Minister Manmohan Singh who is committed to doing something about it, and a chief minister who is committed from his heart and his mind," Gere said. "If you have leadership like that, you can do anything."
