International News Canada: Make Good on AIDS Pledge -- ArchbishopJanuary 2, 2007 Canada's lead Anglican archbishop, Andrew Hutchison, called on Monday for the federal government to adhere to its pledges to make generic AIDS drugs more accessible and combat poverty in the developing nations. "Bill C-9, passed by the Canadian Parliament, has yet to deliver on its promise to make generic drugs available at affordable prices to those who need them most," Hutchison, the primate of the Anglican Church of Canada, said during his New Year's Day sermon at Christ Church Cathedral in Ottawa. If Canada increased its international aid against poverty to 0.7 percent of GDP, AIDS sufferers would benefit, too, he said.
