International News Lesotho: Masai for Africa Campaign Halfway to $1 Million TargetDecember 29, 2006 Last week, Canada's Masai for Africa campaign to sustain an AIDS clinic in Lesotho reached its halfway point to raising $1 million Canadian ($858,400 US). The brainchild of Dr. Anne-Marie Zajdlik, a Guelph family physician and HIV specialist, the clinic and its fundraising scheme have attracted interest nationwide from schools and organizations. University of Guelph students and groups are selling beaded bracelets, made by 100 women in Africa, for a $5 ($4 US) donation, with the target of raising $100,000 ($85,800 US). Other schools have expressed interest in the bracelets, and the national union said it will encourage its 340,000 members to join the fundraising effort by donating $10 ($9 US) each.
