"Love and Respect Us" Public Service Announcements Aim to Reach MSM, Prevent Spread of HIV

December 8, 2006

"Love and Respect Us," HIV Forum NYC/Callen-Lorde Community Health Center: HIV Forum NYC and Callen-Lorde Community Health Center on Nov. 30 on the LOGO network and on Dec. 1 on the Here! network premiered a series of public service announcements aimed at "tackling the rise in HIV, crystal meth use and unsafe sex among" men who have sex with men "with candid honesty." The campaign -- which is titled, "Love and Respect Us" and includes PSAs featuring actresses Whoopi Goldberg, Amanda Peet, Rosie Perez and Susan Sarandon -- also will be broadcast by Cable Positive, the cable and telecommunications industry's AIDS action organization. The PSAs also can be viewed and downloaded online at YouTube and MySpace. In addition, the PSAs will be distributed to health clinics that serve the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender community in major U.S. cities: including Baltimore; Boston; Chicago; Houston; Los Angeles; Philadelphia; and Washington, D.C. They will be distributed to more than 500 gay clubs throughout the country (HIV Forum NYC/Callen-Lorde Community Health Center release, 12/7).
