Ambassador Mark Dybul Sworn in as U.S. Global AIDS Coordinator

October 11, 2006

Ambassador Mark Dybul on Tuesday was sworn in as the U.S. global AIDS coordinator and will administer the President's Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief, the Associated Press reports. Dybul since March has served as the acting global AIDS coordinator and previously served as the deputy coordinator and the assistant coordinator. According to Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice, who presided over the swearing-in ceremony, Dybul is the "right person to carry on this great program and this great cause" (Schweid, Associated Press, 10/10). Dybul also served as the chief medical officer in the Office of the U.S. Global AIDS Coordinator. Before joining OGAC, Dybul worked on the planning task force for PEPFAR and served as the HHS head of President Bush's initiative to prevent mother-to-child HIV transmission in Africa and the Caribbean (Kaiser Daily HIV/AIDS Report, 5/12/05).
