France Gives Cambodia $2.5 Million for AIDS Research

October 6, 2006

France's National Agency for AIDS Research has given 2 million euros (about $2.5 million US) to Cambodia for AIDS research. Mean Chai Vung, director of the Center for Combating AIDS and Dermatology, said on Thursday that the money is earmarked for five research projects and for AIDS education. The funds will enable Cambodia to collect new HIV/AIDS surveillance data -- the existing figures were last updated in 2003 -- and to learn about successful strategies in use in other countries.
