Women Alive Welcomes Visitors From the International Visitor Leadership ProgramSpring 2005
Women Alive had the honor of hosting women and men from seventeen different African Countries who were participants in the International Visitor Leadership Program, and who are working to combat the spread of HIV/AIDS in their countries.
It has been reported previously by AIDS and Africa, that at the national level, the 21 countries with the highest HIV prevalence are in Africa. In at least 10 African countries, prevalence rates among adults exceed 10 percent. The Department of State directs the program in cooperation with a wide range of non-profit organizations operating under cooperative agreements. The program also relies on the commitment and skills of over 95 community-based organizations across the country.
