Women Alive Opens New Support CenterSpring '96 Women Alive is proud to announce that our new support center is now open and fully operational. It has been a 5 year long vision of the women of Being Alive: People with HIV/AIDS Action Coalition to have our own facility. "This new center is living proof that we, women with HIV disease, can take control over our own lives and address our own needs. This center marks the complete success of our work to create a social and support center run by and for women with HIV/AIDS", states Vice President, Mary Lucey. Thank YouThanks to the efforts of countless volunteers this dream has finally been realized. Thanks also to the tireless efforts of Executive Director, Gary E. Costa for securing funding, negotiating the terms of our lease and single-handedly moving the refrigerator. Thanks to Ferd Eggan who, years ago, had the foresight to open up the membership of Being Alive to encompass women. And for spearheading the implementation of the first all women's HIV support group in Los Angeles. Thanks to Mary Lucey for her driving enduring advocacy on behalf of women with HIV/AIDS. Thanks to Walt Senterfitt for being courageous enough to fight for women and women's rights even though he's a man. Extreme gratitude to all of the Board members of Being Alive and the membership at large for their continued support.
