IS BEING IN a gang worth dying for? I think not! Life is too valuable to
lose because of senseless violence. Gang violence has caused so much tragedy
in the world.

This is pointed out very well in a story that I read not long ago called
"Barrio in the Heart." It is about several Chicano gang members from South
Side Locos. The story tells about the tragic ends of several young men, and
how they wound up going to jail or getting killed.

The News
Everyday in the newspaper or on the TV news, you hear about some gang member
getting killed or wounded. Even innocent people and babies get killed in
drive-by shootings. But there is something even worse than getting killed.
The senseless fighting and shooting causes some to become handicapped or
paralyzed for the rest of their lives.
Gang Members
I personaly have known some gang members. Some of them have dropped out of
school or have gone to jail because of their criminal activity. All of the
time spent in gang activity could be better spent in school or at work or
with the family.
So, ask yourself: "Is it really worth being in a gang?" Do you have any
friends or relatives that have been affected by being in a gang?
Their pain becomes your pain and we learn that being in a gang is not worth
that pain.
