Honorees

Ross Bleckner: Critically acclaimed artist Ross Bleckner has used his talent to support organizations dedicated to AIDS research and is currently President of the Board of Community Research Initiative on AIDS (CRIA), an AIDS research and treatment education center in New York City.

The Honorable Gary E. Johnson, Governor of New Mexico: Governor Gary Johnson has worked to increase funding for HIV/AIDS programs in New Mexico and to pass comprehensive drug policy reform legislation. He also supports legalizing the distribution of clean syringes by pharmacists, allowing medical marijuana for persons suffering from chronic diseases such as AIDS, and improving access to treatment for first and second-time, small-amount drug offenders.

Craig R. Miller: AIDS Walk originator Craig R. Miller was 25 in 1985 when he created the world's first AIDS Walk, which raised an astonishing $673,000. Fifteen years later the company he heads, MZA Events, has raised nearly $200 million for the fight against AIDS through the production of AIDS Walks and other grassroots fundraising events.

New School Activists/Metro TeenAIDS: The Washington, DC-based New School Activists, a teen peer education group formed by the youth HIV prevention organization Metro TeenAIDS, spread their HIV prevention messages around the country through an innovative mix of raps, songs, and skits.

Robert C. Scott, M.D.: Renowned physician Dr. Robert Scott of Oakland, California has increased awareness of HIV and AIDS within the African American and religious communities both in the United States and in Africa, helping to found organizations such as AIDS Project of the East Bay. Twice a year he takes clothing and supplies to a children's AIDS orphanage in Zimbabwe and, as head of the AIDS ministry for Allen Temple Baptist Church, persuaded the congregation to adopt the orphanage in Zimbabwe as well as build housing for fifteen HIV positive men and women in the East Bay.
