AIDS Action AnnouncementBenefit November 9-11, 1995:
"In Concert Against AIDS" Under the direction of Music Director Designate Leonard Slatkin, the National Symphony Orchestra will present the Washington premiere of John Corigliano's Symphony No. 1 on November 9, 10 and 11 in the concert hall of the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts. The symphony, commissioned in honor of the centennial of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, was written by Mr. Corigliano in memory of those friends he had lost to AIDS, including three who were musicians. These evenings will constitute a unique benefit, "In Concert Against AIDS." The Honorary Chair for the benefit will be Maestro Slatkin and Mr. Corigliano has been invited to participate in the Opening Night Benefit Gala. We hope you will, too.
All proceeds from "In Concert Against AIDS" will be equally shared by three Washington, DC - based organizations dedicated to the fight against AIDS: AIDS Action Foundation, Food & Friends, and Whitman-Walker Clinic. AIDS Action Foundation works together with AIDS Action Council which represents over 1,000 community-based AIDS service providers nationwide in its efforts to shape fair and effective AIDS policy. Food & Friends prepares and delivers nutritious meals to homebound people with AIDS. Whitman-Walker Clinic is the area's principal HIV/AIDS care service provider. "In Concert Against AIDS" is an exciting opportunity to support the important work of these three organizations which are in partnership to develop a special series of evenings to promote AIDS awareness and advance the fight against HIV/AIDS. Please join us, our friends, colleagues and Maestro Slatkin in support of this important occasion. See details below to choose an exciting evening to join us!
