  • Offers numerous educational initiatives across the spectrum of HIV care; and
  • Publishes one of the most comprehensive HIV educational resources available, the newly revised Fundamentals of HIV Medicine -- 2007 edition.

The HIV SpecialistTM Credentialing Program

As the established professional standard of HIV care and treatment, AAHIVM's HIV SpecialistTM credential is the first and only credential offered domestically and internationally to a diverse provider mix of health professionals specializing in HIV care. Credentialing applicants become designated HIV SpecialistsTM (AAHIVS) after meeting experience and education requirements, and successfully completing a rigorous, psychometrically sound, knowledge-based exam on HIV-specialized medical care. The HIV SpecialistTM credentialing exam is overseen by one of the nation's leading testing companies. Click here for more about the AAHIVM's HIV SpecialistTM Credentialing Program.

Advocacy Initiatives

AAHIVM leverages the unique perspective and the powerful collective voice of HIV care providers to address major national and state policy issues impacting HIV care practice and delivery. The Academy's policy initiatives strive to increase access to care and treatment for HIV patients, boost the respect for the practice of HIV medicine by educating key decision makers about the unique needs of the HIV care provider workforce, and protect patients from increasing health care costs. Educational Initiatives

The Academy's educational programs offer local, regional and national opportunities for HIV care providers to receive updates on HIV treatments, technological advances, practice management and more. AAHIVM provides the HIV SpecialistTM access to a variety of HIV-related CME offerings, most at no cost and available online.
