The AIDS National Interfaith Network no longer exists.

Overview

AIDS National Interfaith Network (ANIN) is a private, non-profit organization founded in 1988. ANIN was created to ensure that individuals with HIV and AIDS receive compassionate and non-judgmental support, care and assistance. ANIN coordinates a network of nearly 2,000 AIDS ministries. ANIN works with national faith-based, AIDS-specific networks; supports community-based AIDS ministries; and educates AIDS service organizations, the religious community at large and the general public about AIDS ministries. ANIN's programs include networking/collaboration, and referral activities, as well as public education and federal AIDS policy advocacy.

Collaborations with Other Organizations

ANIN is a member of the Prevention Collaborative Partners for the Prevention Marketing Initiative of the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). ANIN co-presents the National Skills Building Conference, the largest gathering of front-line AIDS workers in the U.S. Other conference co-presenters are the National Association of People With AIDS and the National Minority AIDS Council. Attendance at the conference has risen from 650 individuals in 1991 to more than 1,800 today. ANIN works hand-in-hand with a wide range of organizations, such as the National AIDS Fund, AIDS Action Council, the National Hospice Organization, The NAMES Project, and others. ANIN is a member of the Temple of Understanding, the international interfaith organization, and the North American Interfaith Network.

A Commitment on HIV/AIDS by People of Faith...

The Council Call Drafted in 1994 by the Council of National Religious AIDS Networks, A Commitment on HIV/AIDS by People of Faith... The Council Call is an interfaith response to HIV/AIDS. Endorsed by over 2,300 individuals and organizations, the document is a testimony to the religious community's voice and action in fighting HIV/AIDS.

Information and Resources

Maintained by ANIN, the National AIDS Ministry Database provides information on HIV and AIDS activities of more than 2,000 religious organizations. Three publications are currently available through ANIN: AIDS and Your Religious Community; the HIV/AIDS Housing Handbook; and INTERaction, ANIN's quarterly newsletter. Action Alerts on federal AIDS policy matters are distributed about issues of importance to AIDS ministries and others. For more information about the religious response to AIDS, the CDC's National AIDS Clearinghouse (NAC) has a toll-free number: 1-800-458-5231. NAC has a list of local resources and contacts, as well as referral services and relevant publications.

AIDS National Interfaith Network has closed. A new organization is in the process of forming. Details will be posted here as soon as we receive them.
