POS Hetero Summit 2002 Takes Place May 16-19 in Los Angeles

"Together We Are Strong" is the slogan for this years' POS Hetero Summit taking place in Los Angeles May 16-19 at the Courtyard Marriott.

Attendees can stay at the Courtyard Marriott located near LAX on Century Blvd. Room rates are $89 for the first 75 people who make reservations. The regular rate is $139-$149. A tax deductible $20 donation will be requested at the door before entering the event.

The summit attracts countless HIV positive heterosexuals who become enlightened about the issues affecting the heterosexual community and receive support from other participants.

"It's time that positive heterosexuals come out of hiding, connect, unite, teach, empower and support one another," says Adam Kuhni the director of Heterochat, a non-profit organization that sponsors the POS Hetero Summit, along with The National Association of People With AIDS (NAPWA). Heterochat was founded by Kuhni to provide support to the heterosexual HIV/AIDS community.

What to Do When Your Child Is Home Sick?

Children laid low by a cold or flu usually don't need to stay in bed all day. In fact, you probably can't keep them there!

But they should avoid vigorous activity, and rest often. Here are some suggestions for keeping your children occupied, while giving them the rest and nourishment they need.

• Have a tea party for two, or juice or lemonade.
  Your child should drink extra fluids when sick, so find a way to make this fun. Avoid milk because drinking milk may thicken their secretions.

• Take a steam bath.
  Make pretend you're at a spa or gym. Wrap your child in a warm towel and sit together on chairs in the bathroom while you run a steamy shower. The steam will moisten your child's nasal membranes, and relax you both. You can also add a capful of vapor bath (ask your pharmacist) to the tub for a mentholated steam.

• Watch a Disney movie.
  Yes, we all know it's not a good idea to let children watch too much television. But when your child is sick, this is one activity that may engross her mind while letting her body rest. Let your child lie on the couch, head elevated on a pillow, to watch the show. This will help drain nasal passages.

• Make little things.
  These are good days to pull out a small box of Legos, Tinkertoys, or blocks. Ask your child to build something -- quietly -- on top of the bed, or on the living room carpet.

• Make some chicken soup.
  Hot liquids are helpful decongestants. If you're busy, open a can of chicken broth and let your child help chop favorite veggies, such as carrots or celery, to simmer in it.

• Sketch pictures.
  A simple sketchpad and some colored pencils are all your child needs to create art without a mess. Children can even rest in bed while they draw.
