was launched in August 2000 as the first HIV-specific housing database in Los Angeles County developed through funds from Housing Opportunities for People with AIDS (HOPWA).
This centralized county-wide housing clearinghouse provides a range of information and referrals, from housing programs to housing fact sheets and current available housing options county-wide. Over the past year, AIDSHousingLA.org has expanded and evolved.
One of the features of AIDSHousingLA.org is the HousingSearch database, the heart of the site.
Besides finding housing options and resources, such as HOWPA Service Providers, emergency shelters and residential addiction programs, there are weekly and affordable housing listings, shared housing situations as well as property management companies specializing in both Section 8 and non-Section 8 properties.
By scrolling just below the HousingSearch database (the orange box) and clicking on any of these files, you will access these Permanent Housing options. The Weekly Apartment listings and Shared Housing situations are updated weekly and the Affordable Apartment lists and HUD listings are updated periodically.
The Weekly Section 8 vacancy list -- County of Los Angeles Housing Authority is password-protected. Access is limited to case managers or housing specialists only. To obtain a copy of the list, call your Case Manager or Housing Specialist.
Another resource for finding affordable housing is the Helpful Links section of the site. By going to the Searchable sites for Permanent Housing you will find Internet apartment finder sites, pet-friendly sites, roommate finder sites, city Web sites and online newspaper classified restate sections. There are even sites to help you with your move.
Please take some time out to visit AIDSHousingLA.org and familiarize yourself with the site and these resources. While visiting the site, go to our guestbook and send us your comments and suggestions.
With your help, AIDSHousingLA.org can be an important and useful resource for your housing needs.
|Do You Have a Property to List?|
Finding affordable housing in the greater Los Angeles area is very difficult. The number of landlords willing to accept Section 8 has greatly diminished and affordable rental units (non-Section 8) are at a premium.
The situation is critical for many people with HIV/AIDS. Often, when people with HIV/AIDS look for housing, they may only find it far from their desired areas. People with HIV/AIDS do not want to move far away from their doctors, support groups, friends and family, as well as the organizations that provide their supportive services.
We are looking for owners, landlords, property management companies and others who are willing to list their properties with the Housing Clearinghouse. If you are a landlord who is interested in renting your units to people who are HIV-positive and/or accept Section 8 certificates or vouchers, or if you are a person who currently lives in a building that accepts Section 8, we would like to hear from you. We will list your property in several databases free of charge and refer prospective clients to you. (Due to reasons of confidentiality; we cannot disclose the registration status of the individual from the referring agency.)
