Questions and Answers

2002

Why Will I Disclose!!!

Because just a little while back... I couldn’t, I didn’t know how... and now that I can... I will.

Because when I tested positive for HIV it made me mad... mad enough to think I had to hide and feel ashamed about my HIV status....

I didn’t know how empowering it could be to talk and do something positive about it....

I will disclose because I am no longer afraid and ashamed about my HIV status....

Because when I disclose... it gives me strength to put one foot in front of the other and keep going on....

That’s why I choose to disclose!!!

Why We Should All Disclose!!!

Because it’s important to rise to the occasion... especially amidst these very trying times and all their uncertainties....

It’s important to communicate and show that we as a people still care about one another....

By disclosing your HIV status that’s what you are doing....

You’re sending a very powerful and positive message to those around you and to the community at large....

You’re saying that you’re not willing to hide on the sidelines....

Instead you’re choosing to do something about your HIV status....

You’re giving HIV/AIDS a face and in doing so...
You’re saying that you care about yourself first, and thus caring about those around you as well!!

Why Will You Disclose!!!

You’re disclosing because you care about the person you’re with... or the one you’re hoping to meet... and because you care about having a voice in the epidemic... when others can’t or won’t.

Because maybe they’re too scared to say something about it... or perhaps they plain and simply cannot!

And not only that you disclose to show those around you that something is being done about HIV/AIDS that the epidemic hasn’t gone away....

And that it remains important and vital... that we all do whatever we can to raise not only awareness... but the levels of consciousness, understanding and compassion to all those dealing with this disease....

Most important of all...

You’re disclosing because seeing your ability to talk openly about your HIV status... gives people that are dealing with it hope... instead of feelings of hopelessness, fear and despair!

Plain and simple... that’s why you should disclose!!!
