Eleventh Birthday with AIDS

March 1999

Dreaming underneath magnolia trees
Aware of my southern history
Longing for a future
My good health to return
Praying that I am in God's hands

Approaching another birthday
While living with AIDS
The struggle has become tremendous
Just to live another day
So many doctors appointments to keep

All of the medications I take
Needles constantly stuck in my body
The years are taking their toll
And yet, I am still here
My body wounded with infection

Sitting underneath magnolia trees
This southern gentleman weeps
Longing for a healing
My hopeful heart keeps
Dreaming underneath magnolia trees
