Immediately after the attack on the World Trade Center, families and friends began posting flyers with the photos and descriptions of missing loved ones. At sites across the city, but especially outside the emergency Family Center where this photo was taken, the many flyers soon became quilt-like memorials to the dead, reminding many of another famous quilt.
