More than 9,000 viewers at approximately 400 sites across North America participated in the May 22 satellite broadcast, "HIV Prevention Update on Key Issues in Counseling and Testing." CDC's Divisions of HIV/AIDS Prevention (DHAPs) joined the National Alliance of State and Territorial AIDS Directors, CDC's Public Health Practice Program Office, and the Public Health Training Network to produce the broadcast. It was designed to reach staff at HIV counseling and testing sites and HIV prevention providers such as HIV Prevention Community Planning Group members, educators, trainers, and administrators. This interactive broadcast presented new information about the effectiveness of HIV counseling and emerging technologies for HIV testing. Issues and future challenges for HIV prevention programs also were discussed. Viewers were invited to call or fax questions for the speakers to answer. Any questions that were not answered still may be submitted by fax to 404-639-0944, marked "Attn: Satellite Broadcast." Due to the large number of questions from the audience, please allow approximately 2 weeks to receive a response. Videotapes of the broadcast are available for $12.00 (includes shipping and handling) from the CDC National AIDS Clearinghouse. (See address and telephone number on page 9.) Upcoming Satellite BroadcastThe next satellite broadcast produced by the Divisions of HIV/ AIDS Prevention, "HIV Prevention Update on Guidelines for Prevention Case Management and Partner Notification," is scheduled for October 23 (1:00-3:30 p.m. Eastern Time). A fact sheet listing objectives, target audience, speakers, and instructions about registering, viewing, and setting up a viewing site are available from the CDC Fax System at 1-888-CDC-FAXX. (When prompted, enter the document number -- 130012 -- and the telephone number for your fax machine.) Locations must make arrangements for their own viewing site and are encouraged to begin those plans as soon as possible. You should locate a satellite down-link site with a steerable antenna that can receive either C or Ku-band channels. Your organization may have such a viewing site, or you may contact the local American Red Cross chapter, schools, hospitals, community colleges, universities, or county extension offices to request use of their viewing site. Additional information is available from the CDC National AIDS Clearinghouse. If you have questions, please contact the Clearinghouse at 1-800-458-5231.
