Description: The CIDER Summit 2009 will be a two-day educational conference co-sponsored by the California Association of Communicable Disease Controllers, California Department of Public Health, and University of California, San Francisco, Department of Epidemiology and Biostatistics, Division of Preventive Medicine and Public Health. The CIDER Summit 2009 will highlight (1) the advances in the epidemiology and control of emerging infectious diseases; (2) the recognition, investigation, and response to recent large foodborne outbreaks; (3) the state of electronic disease reporting and surveillance in California; (4) updates on pediatric and adult immunization practices; (6) selected updates in the prevention and control of high priority infectious diseases; and (7) the science behind the legal reporting of healthcare-associated infections.

Description: These 4-day conferences are planned to give community- and faith-based organizations a competitive edge in Grants Writing, Board Development, Fund Development and Proposal Writing, Strategic Planning and Financial Management or Budget Basics. The cutting-edge sessions focus on developing organizational sustainability, the major theme of the conferences. Based on time-tested strategies and tips for growing, developing, and sustaining nonprofits, the revised training packages offer important skills and abilities for community-based organizations to increase their efficiency and effectiveness. For the first two days, two concurrent training sessions on Financial Management or Budget Basics and Grant Writing will be offered in Savannah, GA. For the second two days, two concurrent sessions will be offered on Strategic Planning and Fund Development/Strategic Planning. Participants attending the regional conferences must commit to attend at least one session for two days over the four day conference. However, participants are encouraged to attend two training workshops over the four day period to gain as much of the cutting edge knowledge on how to sustain their organizations during very tough economic conditions and increasingly limited resources and funds. NMAC does not expect to repeat the regional training conference the last and first quarter of 2009 and 2010 respectively.

Title: Mental Health Issues & Hepatitis C: Working with HCV+Drug Users

Description: This half day training will review the major mental health issues involved in hepatitis C disease and treatment, as well as research around causes, manifestations, and treatment of various neuropsychiatric conditions seen in people with hepatitis C. As a result of this training, participants will: (1) Interpret the prevalence of psychiatric disorders among people with hepatitis C; (2) Identify common neuropsychiatric symptoms associated with chronic hepatitis C infection and the latest information on what may be causing them; (3) Review neuropsychiatric side effects associated with hepatitis C treatment; and (4) Define strategies used to manage side effects of HCV treatment.
