Tanzanian Model Launches AIDS Trust in Namibia

April 29, 2003

Tanzanian fashion model Tausi Likokola, now well known on the catwalks of Europe, has established a fund to raise money for AIDS projects in Namibia. Launched on April 24, the Tausi AIDS Trust Fund aims to tap the corporate social responsibility budgets of companies and will avoid duplication by primarily funding existing HIV/AIDS initiatives. "We will fund [organizations] if they have transparency and a record of bringing results," said Likokola, president of the trust. Likokola's visit to Namibia coincided with the launch of the new Sense condom by the National Social Marketing Association, which markets low cost female and male condoms and is a beneficiary of the Tausi fund. In addition, a similar trust has also been set up in South Africa.
