South Africa: Mpumalanga Government, Council of Churches Embark on HIV/AIDS ConferenceApril 9, 2003 The Mpumalanga education department and the council of churches in the Mpumalanga province on Tuesday began a four-day HIV/AIDS awareness conference. The gathering aims to put into action South Africa's national HIV/AIDS strategy of engaging community organizations to help fight the pandemic. Department spokesperson Thomas Msiza said the conference was organized in response to President Thabo Mbeki's call for partnerships between government and civil society.
