International News South Asian Women Gather in Bangladesh Capital to Talk Violence, Trafficking, AIDSAugust 12, 2003 On Monday, hundreds of women from Bangladesh, India, Nepal, Pakistan and Sri Lanka held a silent demonstration in front of Bangladesh's Parliament to highlight the threats -- including human traffickers, sexual slavery and diseases like HIV/AIDS -- that many women face. The women are in Dhaka to attend a gathering addressing these issues; it was organized by the Asian Women's Human Rights Council, a nongovernmental organization based in Bangalore, India, in cooperation with local rights groups and international donor agencies.
