Nebraska's New HIV Cases Decline Last Year

February 4, 2003

According to Nebraska AIDS Project statistics, the state's number of new HIV cases in 2002 was substantially lower than in 2001. Compared with 87 cases of HIV infection in 2001, 50 were reported last year. Reported AIDS cases declined as well, from 74 in 2001 to 72 in 2002. Nebraska's total AIDS deaths were 641 at the close of 2001 and 656 as of July 2002. Death figures for the entire year were unavailable.
