Money for Uganda

July 17, 2003

U.S. Ambassador to Uganda Johnny Kolker and Finance Minister Gerald Ssendaula on Tuesday signed a $62 million development assistance package for Uganda, according to Agence France Presse. The assistance, to be given through the U.S. Agency for International Development, will help Uganda continue its efforts to fight AIDS. A public policy campaign urging abstinence and contraception has cut Uganda's AIDS rate dramatically. "You have shown the world what is possible," President Bush told Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni last week during his stop in the central African nation. "Uganda, by confronting AIDS aggressively, has given hope to all of Africa." The funds will also support agriculture, biodiversity programs, education and child care.
