About 20,000 volunteers marched through Golden Gate Park Sunday for San Francisco AIDS Foundation's AIDS Walk, raising $3.1 million for SFAF and 34 AIDS-related service organizations in the Bay Area. "Considering the poor state of the local economy, we're really pleased with the overall success of this event," said Redge Horton, spokesperson for SFAF. "It's important to support research to find a cure for AIDS," said Jeff Beckman, 40, who walked with his 7-year-old daughter and her friend. "I also think it's important to teach my daughter and her friend the importance of giving back to the community." Since 1987, about 310,000 people have marched in 17 AIDS Walks and raised $46 million.
