Vertex: HIV Drug Not as Potent as Abbott's

Vertex Pharmaceuticals Inc. said that its experimental AIDS drug, GW433908, appeared less potent against HIV in a yearlong study than Abbott Laboratories' drug, Kaletra. Vertex developed the drug with GlaxoSmithKline, and the companies filed for Food and Drug Administration approval of GW433908 in December. Patients taking Kaletra had steeper reductions in HIV levels throughout the study, Vertex said.
