Tulane University Receives Grant to Expand AIDS Research

July 25, 2003

Tulane University researchers recently received a $773,161 award from the National Institutes of Health to continue an HIV/AIDS prevention program for youths in the New Orleans area. The program, the New Orleans Adolescent Medicine Trials Unit, is one of 15 sites nationally dedicated to researching tools and strategies to prevent and treat HIV/AIDS in youth ages 12-24. Sue Ellen Abdalian, principal investigator for the Tulane research, said the award will fund "Connect to Protect," a program to develop community networks to further community-based research and prevention of HIV among youths.
