News Briefs Alaska: Planned Parenthood to Open Office in JuneauJuly 8, 2003 In an effort to provide sexual health education to area schools, the University of Alaska Southeast, and health agencies, Planned Parenthood of Alaska will open an office in Juneau. Katherine Davey, director of education and training for Planned Parenthood of Alaska, will head the Juneau office. While the primary goal for the new office will be to provide education resources, Davey said the organization would eventually like to open a clinic to provide testing and treatment for STDs, birth control, pregnancy testing, breast and cervical cancer screenings and other services. Davey added that she plans to visit middle and high schools in the city to present "age-appropriate and medically accurate" information on sexual development, STDs, healthy relationships and methods of birth control. "We present programs on abstinence as well as methods of birth control," noted Davey. Associated Press 07.07.03 This article was provided by U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
